Bank of America on the SW corner of Ridgecrest Blvd. and China lake Blvd. This
is the original site of Bentham's Corners |
NW corner of Balsam St. and W. Ridgecrest Blvd. Originally the First Federal
Savings and Loan. They also had a popular time and temp sign on their site.
Later it was Eagle Mountain Gifts and currently houses the law offices
of Burke West. Just to the right is the corner where the post office made
its next home in the 50's. |
This is the corner of Balsam and Ridgecrest Blvd. Looks like a chinese restaraunt
on the left end of the bldg. The old Ridgecrest Pharmacy and Hazeltons
clothing store. What you see here as JD's used to be Burke's Meat market.
Looking to the left and down Balsam you can see where the old post
office was. |


The Landmark Baptist Church on the corner of Norma St. and Ridgecrest Blvd. |

East Ridgecrest Blvd. The Daily Independent. In the background the trees are
a part of old Wherry Housing now a low income development owned by Ridge Apartments/ |

KZIQ Radio and Bowles Desert Insurance. Prior to that it was Desert
Insurance and was owned by Bill Duguid. Located on the North
side of Ridgecrest Blvd. just west of China Lake Blvd. Just to the
east of this bldg is where the now closed Bamboo Club used to be. |

John's Pizza and Ice Cream on W. Ridgecrest Blvd. This is very close to the
site where Bauer's Burgers was many years ago. Us old timers remember Tiny
Bauer and Bauers Burgers. John's Pizza parking lot to the right in this
pic may be the actual location of Tiny's. |

This is Jeff's Music Shop in a building that is very near John's Pizza and
Ice Cream and the former site of Bauer's Burgers. |

Loewen's Appliances on E. Ridgecrest Blvd.on the south side of the street.
Loewens is close to the old bowling alley and just west of the old Miracle
City Motel now undergoing renovation again!! |

West Ridgecrest Blvd. just east of the old Victory Market site and once was
Rizzardini's Furniture and in later years a popular teen shop called Anita's
Dress Shop. |

Orient Outlet located on W Ridgecrest Blvd. Across from the old post office.
This was the location of Means Nursery. Many desert rats will remember
using the walkway access next to Means Nursery which connected Ridgecrest
Blvd. to the Park and James Monroe School to the South of the Park. |

Old Kern County Courthouse. On land that was donated in 1944 by Joe
Fox for a recreation center for the servicemen. The USO actually ran it for
a while and in 1946 it was acqured by Kern County for their Court. This building
has most recently been operated as a womens center and is now empty. |

This was the original site of Victory Market built in 1944 by Mac Rizzardini.
Today it houses a martial arts studio. |

Old location on West Ridgecrest Blvd. of the Kern County Library, this was located
just west of the old courthouse. |

Site of the old Bamboo Club on west Ridgecrest Blvd. It has been a number of
different bars and card clubs. This is on the south side of the street
just west of the Bank of America and the intersection of Ridgecrest Blvd. and China
Lake Blvd. |

RC's Barbershop located at 225 W Ridgecrest Blvd. on the South side of the
street. This was the Chips Cafe in the 50's,west of Shoaffs Cafe. Today
RC's shares this building with the The Flower Shop |

This familiar building was once Hucek's Travel Service in the 60's and 70's and was
also your Greyhound Bus Stop. It is on the south side of E Ridgecrest
Blvd. and just east of the corner where Suzy Q's once was at the intersection of
China Lake Blvd. and Ridgecrest Blvd. |

Just south of the China Lake and Ridgecrest Blvd intersection on the east side of
So. Chna Lake Blvd. is a little street called Grande Way. This suite of
offices house primarily beauty salon services. Grande Way winds behind businesses
which face onto both E. Ridgecrest Blvd. and S. China Lake Blvd. making
its way sougherly to California Avenue which Runs east and west and intersects
So. China Lake Blvd. |

Fraternal Order of the Eagles located at 301 W. Ridgecrest Blvd. on the SW corner
intersection with S. Warner St. to the left of this bldg. |

Tommy T's on E. Ridgecrest Blvd. located where the old Ridgecrest Bowl was and prior
to that in the late 40's and early 50's Ridgecrest Motors. |

Airbrush - located on the SE corner of W. Ridgecrest Blvd. and Warner St.
In the 50's and 60's this was the law offices of Ken Smith. |
